Getting Here

There are plenty of options for getting here and for getting around once you’re here! About half of our guests have rented or had their own car, while the other half have used transportation services (e.g., taxis, buses, shuttles). It’s all fairly easy to arrange, but we’re here to help as needed!

Transportation Services

For transfers directly between Lost Compass Cabanas and anywhere in Belize

AA Harris Belize Shuttle (Website) offers airport pickup/dropoff, private rides between towns, and guided tours from San Ignacio. For transfers between San Ignacio and other select Belize destinations (e.g., the Water Taxi, Hopkins, Placencia)

Belize Caving Expeditions (Website | Location) has a good option for budget-conscious travelers with a daily shared shuttle between Guatemala, San Ignacio, and the water taxi.

The Department of Transport has a fairly detailed bus schedule for getting to and from San Ignacio.

For car rental

Crystal Auto Rental (Website) is a great place to rent a vehicle. They have two locations: one at the airport and one closer to Belize City. They are the only company that can provide permits for getting into Guatemala with a rental car!

Flames Auto Rental (Location | Website) is a great place to rent a vehicle here in San Ignacio if you just need something for a day or two.

If you are driving yourself or explaining to a taxi driver how to get here, you can always find us using a map application. The map may try to take you to Caracol Street (towards Cahal Pech at the roundabout), which isn't the end of the world, but it's also NOT the best route (large hills, poor roads). Our address does not have a street number and not all street names are labeled and/or well-known, so using landmarks for navigation is (almost) always the way to go!

Generally, we are located in the Kontiki area of San Ignacio on Figueroa Street, which is the road to Mosquitoville and the Raptor Center. You will see the Lost Compass Cabanas sign in front of the tall house at the top of the hill, just past the house with the big white gate. You can pull into the drive and we'll come out to meet you!

More specifically,

Coming from the east on Western Highway: left onto Maya Vista Drive (just before Helen's supermarket, it's a steep paved hill); make a right at the top of the hill (stay on the paved road); this turns into Constellation Boulevard; left onto Figueroa Street (at the tall, green/blue house); we're about a 1/3 of a mile down on the left.
Coming from the west on Western Highway: right onto Beetlejuice Street (the street right before the Kontiki Service Station) and stay to the left at the fork in the road; right on Constellation Boulevard (at the T in the road); left onto Figueroa Street (at the tall, green/blue house); we're about a 1/3 of a mile down on the left.
